Debt Free Anniversary!

debtfreebohons

SHOUT OUT! Today marks our 1-year anniversary of being debt free!! We paid off the car loan last April Fool’s Day and have been saving up our 6-month Emergency Fund ever since (we’re almost there!). It’s been an interesting year. We’ve cash flowed emergencies, vacations, college, and everything in between. All thanks to Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University.

If you haven’t taken FPU, you’re missing out! I promise no matter where you are in your financial journey, you’ll learn something from Dave.

Do it before time passes and you wish you had.

My 2013 Year in Review

Hi friends, I hope you had a wonderful New Year’s Eve and are excited about 2014! My 2013 was definitely one for the books! Here’s a rundown of the high points:

Dude, You’re So Weird.

It’s been a reoccurring theme in my life the past few years to be totally weird. Here’s one definition of what that means:

weird  (wîrd)
adj. weird·er, weird·est

  1. Of, relating to, or suggestive of the preternatural or supernatural.
  2. Of a strikingly odd or unusual character; strange.
  3. Archaic Of or relating to fate or the Fates.

However, I think it looks a bit more like this!

Tip Time!

Happy Friday, friends!

I had a fun time with yesterday’s #StartExp assignment from Jon:

Day 18: Tip Time

One of the best things at the 5 club meetings we do in Nashville is the “Tip Time.” For a few minutes, I open the floor and folks shout out tips that have helped them along the way. Some people share apps. Some people share books. Some people share exercise ideas. It’s a “this worked for me” free for all. Today, I want you to share one tip you’ve had success with in the Facebook group.

I shared what first came to mind on the Facebook page and wanted to share them in the blogosphere as well! :) Continue reading

UPDATE: Debt Free Christmas

DebtFreeXmasUpdate

Hi friends!

I have an exciting update for you regarding our Debt Free Christmas goal! But first, here’s the back story.

For a few weeks now, I’ve been completely torn about attending Jon Acuff’s super awesome and amazing START Conference while still tackling our debt. My internal struggle went something like this:

Our New Money Goal

Hi friends,

I hope you all had a great Sunday! Jerod and I had our mid-month budget meeting today and I’m still amazed by how the more we talk about finances, the easier it gets! I probably get more excited about this meeting than he does {read, FPU Nerd}, but at least he’s a willing participant! That being said, we’ve come up with a new goal & I’d love to share it with you!

START in the Park

Hello & Happy Saturday!

This month has been quite an adventure for me! Two weeks ago, author Jon Acuff posted an ambiguously exciting message on his blog. It said something to the affect of “Adventurers wanted. 24 people. 24 days. Success attainable. Risk guaranteed.” and requested contact information from those who wanted to join. Continue reading

The 14-year movie

Screen Shot 2013-08-02 at 7.01.04 AM

Well, it finally happened: Jerod & I are engaged! ♥

Some of you have been watching this movie for 14 years. One of you “called it” the day we met at his 16th birthday pool party. Some of you have only been watching it for a few years, but can recite the story from the beginning. Many of you finally had hope when we started dating 2+ years ago. Many of you witnessed the proposal last Saturday with family & friends. Thank you so much for being there for us. :)

“That’s all cute & good, May, but how did he do it? Get on with it!” Continue reading

Success starts somewhere

We shouldn’t compare the start of our journey to the finish of someone else’s.

This is something I’ve learned over the last year and a half as I’ve been tackling my personal debt. You’re reading this in the middle of my journey as I’m just under $10,000 and started at $18,000 about 18 months ago. What an awesome, emotional ride it’s been!

This week I was blessed with the opportunity to interview with some awesome financial coaches about my successes and struggles on the road to #DebtFree. Check out the interview here!

Things I’ve learned now that I’m on the fun side of money management: Continue reading
