Debt Free Anniversary!

debtfreebohons

SHOUT OUT! Today marks our 1-year anniversary of being debt free!! We paid off the car loan last April Fool’s Day and have been saving up our 6-month Emergency Fund ever since (we’re almost there!). It’s been an interesting year. We’ve cash flowed emergencies, vacations, college, and everything in between. All thanks to Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University.

If you haven’t taken FPU, you’re missing out! I promise no matter where you are in your financial journey, you’ll learn something from Dave.

Do it before time passes and you wish you had.

Not Everyone is a Victoria’s Secret Angel and That’s Ok

VS

Last night the Twittersphere was in a tizzy about the 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Inspired by my friend’s amazing post from last year, I’ve decided to share Tweets from last night that stood out to me the most. Take from them what you will and see below for my response.

When Giving Is Not What You Expected

Has this ever happened to you? It starts with a prayer…

“Ok, God. I’m ready to give! I’m ready to serve my community and my neighbors. So let’s get started! I bet you want me to help that single mom, don’t you? And that older lady with her dogs? And the young couple upstairs with two dogs and a baby on the way? Just let me know when and I’ll get started.”

Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Days, weeks, and months go by. A seemingly unanswered, but intentional prayer is replaced by life’s responsibilities.

Then, something starts to happen.

My 2013 Year in Review

Hi friends, I hope you had a wonderful New Year’s Eve and are excited about 2014! My 2013 was definitely one for the books! Here’s a rundown of the high points:

Public Service Announcement

Dear friends,

This is a Public Service Announcement. If you live in an area that gets below freezing in the winter {or you live in Texas where this only happens once a year}, remember to let your faucets drip so your downstairs apartment neighbors don’t wake up to this the next morning. Continue reading

Happy Veteran’s Day!

JB Military

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13

Happy Veteran’s Day to all the veterans and military families! I know you don’t like to be recognized, but you certainly deserve it! We take for granted what you sacrifice daily. Thank you for your service!

Happy Veteran’s Day to my favorite vet: Jerod. He accomplished many great things while in the Army, most of which he’ll never tell you about. I remember writing him letters while he was in Iraq and celebrating his return with a homemade picnic and concert on the lawn (we were still just friends, you see). Continue reading

You Find Out Who Your Friends Are

20131030-173639.jpg

It’s been said that you know who your real friends are by how they react to dramatic changes in your life. Well, this week has been a great example of that!

I’m in between jobs right now (all is well and we were prepared for this thanks to FPU) and the amount of support that has poured in has been wonderful! Former coworkers who are still friends have reached out to say they miss me. People from the group formerly know as the START Experiment have helped me with resume crafting, cover letter drafting and LinkedIn rebuilding.

My friends have also sent me numerous job openings and ideas to help me pursue my dreams. They even encouraged me to apply for a scholarship o attend Bob Goff‘s Love Does Conference in Austin, Texas.

Well, guess what. I won!! My friends already attending offered to pick me up on their way down from Oklahoma and we are staying with more friends right outside of Austin.

We’re actually en route right now and can’t wait to be united with the rest of the group!

It’s going to be amazing and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! Thanks again for all the support (you know who you are!) and encouragement to continue pursuing my dreams! :) I couldn’t do it without you. <3

Now, that being said, I want to pay the blessings forward. How can I help YOU? How can I support your dreams?

Let me know on the comments below!

Notes from START Conference

A few weeks ago I was gifted a trip to START Conference. There were more speakers than the three I listed below. Admittedly, sometimes I stopped writing so I could just listen and soak up the wisdom. The ones in bold are my fave. :) Continue reading

Fear Punch Friday: Fear of Self

foggy road
(via)

Today’s Fear Punch Friday post has a little deeper than the ones before it. I hope I’ve organized these few ramblings enough to disguise them as planned-out thoughts. :)

One of the things I fear is being myself. I always wonder, “Will I be good enough? Will they love me, hate me or just ambiguously “like” me?” Truth be told, that third one is the worst.

Do I get in the way of my own self? Some times, yes.
But is that an opportunity to learn and grow? Always.
Am I still figuring our my strengths? Definitely.
Am I afraid to admit my weaknesses? …I plead the 5th.

“Just be yourself, May!” I hear this a lot, but fear tells me that “just myself” isn’t good enough. Truth says it is good enough because He formed me and created me for a specific purpose.

Eventually the fog in my head will clear and I’ll discover that purpose, but that comes with time, experience and trail-and-error. And trail-and-error. And trail-and-error.

Until then, I’ll just keep STARTing.

START Conference 2013: #alltheAwesomeness

Ooh man. START Conference officially wrapped up four nights ago and I’m still recovering! Let’s just say that 5 Club this week has not been pretty… :)

These are only 1% the memories made with Start Experiment friends…

  • Not hearing my alarm and waking up 2 hours late
  • Reading an “I’m at the airport!” text from Malori as I woke up
  • Casey stalling our flight because he’s awesome
  • Malori waiting for me so we could run to the gate together <3
  • Arriving at the gate 1 minute passed “last call” Continue reading
